I am building a rifle for my 14 y.o. son. I am using an AICS 1.5 and the R&D Rapid Break. We shoot up to 1,000 yards and use 168, 175, and 178 grain ammo.

I have to decide between which rifle for him the LTR or the AAC-SD. Both are 20" barrels. The cost to thread the muzzle on the LTR will be off-set by selling of the Factory HS stock.

LTR 1-12 twist
AAC-SD 1-10 twist

I would appreciate your input.

I say AAC-SD. But It's what I got myself. Put the R&D Rapid Break on it also.

If you have an FFL with an account at RSR, they have an "exclusive" SPS-Tactical rifle, 1-10" twist, 5/8x24 threaded, AAC brake factory installed. Basically it's an AAC-SD with a black hogue stock and an installed AAC 100185 brake. The Remington cat # is 85542 (not shown on Remingtons site).

Re: Opinion LTR or AAC-SD

I just got my AAC-SD in Monday. Got it ready and I sighted it in Saturday.

Hornady 168gr. Amax- .311"

Federal Premium 165gr. Sierra Gameking BTSP- .673"

old Hornady 150gr. Interlock BTSP- .882"

Hornady 150gr. SST- 1.024"

Hornady 168gr. Match BTHP- 1.469"

Hornady 150gr. SST Superformance- 1.553"

Federal 180gr. Nosler Partition High Energy- 1.607"

Federal 180gr. Hi-shok PSP- 1.67"

Scope was a Leupold FXII 4x33 in Talley Lightweight Lows. Distance was 100yds. These were 3 shot groups and I know what some will say but I plan on hunting with it mainly. Got it primarily because it was 1:10 twist.

I am going to shoot it some more later on when I get some more of the more promising ammo.

Re: Opinion LTR or AAC-SD

Definitely AAC. It takes an already solid rifle (SPS-T) and adds some great features. Even if you don't get a can - the ability to add a brake to that rifle is gold. I sent my SPS to get threaded for a brake and the rifle is now a dream to shoot with the Badger FTE. I didn't think it would make THAT big a difference in a .308, but it does because the rifle is so light to start with.

I was just inside my local gun store this past week.....they have an AAC on the shelf marked at about $675.....check out this link to the business. You might be able to set up a sale from them to your local dealer....
