Hey fellas I bought one of these the other day at my local gun shop. I got one that was new in the box, however, when I got home I found a few things that are making me wonder if I should send it back to savage for warranty work. I found 4 issues, 1st is the end of the barrel has a big raised burr on both the edge of the crown and another around the bore itself. 2nd, I noticed that the bolt raceways are really rough compared to my Savage 11 I have. I don’t think it makes a difference as far as performance but it just looks like crap. 3rd, the barrel is offset in the barrel channel making the barrel rub the entire right side on the barrel and the left side has a big gap along the barrel. 4th, which is that the safety doesn’t feel very tactile like the one on my 11. You can barely feel it “click” when moving through the 3-position safety. Below are a few pics, I know if I called Savage they will want it back and then I’ll have to wait for the turn around time, which who knows how long that will be I’m guessing 4 weeks at the earliest. So what say you? This rifle has never been shot either...

Take it back to shop and voice your concerns.
I've heard Savage can be pretty rough, but that seems to be a QA problem.
Hope your dealer looks after you.

Nope, he said they got it a a gun show as a package deal and I got the only one. So, I called Savage and they want it back. They also said the turn around time is 3 weeks depending on what needs done. The lady I spoke to was VERY apologetic and insisted that they have a look at it to repair or replace it. I never even got to shoot it, dang shame to because my scope for it is coming next week. It’s very disappointing that factories can’t take an extra 2 minutes to inspect their firearms. I mean if I was working there I would never send something like that out and it did not take me very long to find those problems either. Guess I shoulda did more than a quick once over before buying it.

I like the FV model line, inexpensive and normally decent shooters. Pretty sure they are out of production currently.

Shame

I bought it as a starter rifle in long range, well 500 yards anyway. I personally think long range doesnt really start until your getting close to 1000 yards. However, I am left handed and finding guns in that configuration in my area is like finding a golden egg. I’d rather had a 6mm creed or a 243 with a 1-8 twist barrel. However, my local matches are only 500 yards and I know for a fact 308 can be pushed to 1000. It just takes more skill and the right bullet. I believe the 12flv is a 1-10 twist in 308. Should lend itself to a 175 gr. Sierra match king rather well.
