Hi there long time lurker first time poster. I just recently have purchased a Remington 700 aac and I am not sure given my application what would be the best option for me. I am going to be using this rifle for recreation shooting. I have ranges available to me from 100 to 1000 yards and would like to just learn long distance shooting.

I have a 22 trainer which uses a 4-16 power scope and to be honest the only real time I change from using either 16 or 10 power is when spotting for friends etc.

I currently am looking at a viper pst 6-20 or a super sniper 10X however which do you believe would be a better learning platform? Having the variable power or using a fixed and having less issues to worry about? budget isnt really an issue between the two but the money saved from the SS would definetly help toward ammo. I'd just like to get a good foundation to start on.

Thank you guys once again this site has provided me with a wealth of knowledge over two years or so and I dont think I would have been able to get into this sport without all your help!

Re: opinions on variable vs fixed for begginer

Welcome,

I have a SS 16x on my .22lr and a 20x on my .308 and have been very happy with them both. what ever you do get matching retical and turrets. The PST's are nice scopes, the 6-24x50's are damn near impossible to get ahold of right now. IMO get the SS and buy reloading stuff with the extra money. Or ammo... You can always upgrade scopes later and bump the SS to your .22lr
