I was going to do a .300WM build but the more I think about it I think I'm just going to go with the .338 Lapua.

My shortest planned distance for this rifle will be 600 to 700 yards and out to 1500 yards or further as I progess with it.

This is the combo I'm considering.

Sako Trg-42

SPUHR 30mm 24moa Mount

The decision I'm having the hardest time with is the scope. I want at least a 25X scope but since I'm not shooting closer then 600 yards and it's going to be more of a long distance tool, is there any reason I should not consider the 12-42 NF. I also have no experience with NF other then playing with them at the gun shop. I've also only been able to look through the 5.5X25.

The specific NF I'm looking at is the Nightforce NXS 12-42x56 1/4 MOA NP-R1 C331 from http://www.eurooptic.com/nightforce-nxs-12-42x56-25-moa-np-r1-c331.aspx I've decided the $2000.00 is going to be my max budget.

So what do you all think, any thing I should change? If so please explain and offer your experiences.

Thanks

Dont get the 12-42x. The reticle is calibrated to use a 22x so you will be dialing down or up to use it. Going to become a pain in ass. Get the 3-15 or the 5.5-22 if going NF. My $.02.

5-25 S&B P4f, It's what I have or 5-25 S&B with the H2CMR reticle. Just go S&B and you'll be happy.

I have an NF 8-32x56 on my TRG42, mounted on a 20 MOA base. With 250gr Scenars @ 2900fps, I only have enough elevation to hit ~1500 yards. Past that, I have to dial down to 22 power so I can hold off with the reticle.

If going with a NF, choose the 5.5-22, it has way more elevation travel.

A Vortex fits in your price range... FFP too.

Word of advice don't look at a S&B if you can't afford one or can't save up for one. They will just make you angry at whatever optic you are running.

If you can afford one, get one.

I agree to the above few posts. The S&B stuff is amazing. I love my Premier but that's what I have and what I use. The Vortex is a great scope and at a good price point.

Another option is to keep your eyes open in the FS section and snag a good deal on something used.

Enjoy that Sako!
