I recently got a good deal on opticsplanet.com for a new MM4 60 ED straight spotting scope and bought it to compare against my Nikon III 60 ED. They compare incredibly well. I just like having the higher zoom range of the Nikon 20-60X. See HERE.
Just to clarify, this is brand new. I haven’t registered it yet, but can and will so the new owner can get the transferrable lifetime warranty if you are interested. This is an excellent, high quality Japanese made spotting scope.
I also bought the MM4 50 ED with the SDLv3 eyepiece to compare against the Nikon ED 50 with the MCII 13-40X eyepiece. Again, they compare extremely well. I did get to compare the SDLv3 against the HDF eyepieces in both scopes and I saw no visual differences. There might be a difference when used in a larger scope at even higher magnifications, but on both MM4’s they were identical.
