Great forum guys!! Too much information to absorb at once!

First some back ground on the gun:
AR platform in 6.8 SPC 18in flat top. Uses: hunting, target, and maybe some friendly competition with friends out to 300yds.

My scope experience:
Savage 10FP in .308 w/BSA 4-16 Illu. Mil-Dot
Note: no problems with the scope but has had lite use.
Savage 110FP in .223 w/Timney Trigger & Bell & Carlson
Duramaxx stock, Simmons 6-24x44 ProMag (if memory
is right) scope. Note: no problems with the scope but has
had lite use.

So with my new AR build, I am going to venture out into the world of a little higher end of scopes.

These are some of the scopes that I am considering:
Leupold 6-18x40 AO Mark 2 T1
Nikon 4-16x42mm Monarch Mil-Dot
Nikon 5-20x44 Monarch BDC (draw back of 1/2 MOA)
Nikon 2.5-10x50 Monarch BDC 1/4 MOA
Nikon 6-24x50 Monarch BDC
Nikon 4-16x50 Monarch BDC
Nikon 4-16x42 Monarch BDC
Bushnell Elite 4200 6.5-24x50 Mil-Dot
Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 or 50 PA Mil-Dot

Thanks in advance!

Re: Optics Advice

Thanks guys...I appreciate the advice...

I also would like to add that I want to hunt hogs, coyotes, and deer. I was told that I should look into getting a scope with illuminated reticle for hunting the hogs.

I am looking at the following scopes:
Burris 2.5-10x50mm Euro Diamond Riflescope, 1/4 MOA, 3P #4 E-Dot Illuminated Reticle
3-12x56mm Euro Diamond Riflescope, 1/4 MOA, 3P #4 E-Dot Illuminated Reticle
3-9x40mm Burris Fullfield II LRS, Illuminated Ballistic Plex Reticle
3.5-10x50mm Burris Fullfield TAC30 Tactical, Illum Ballistic Plex Reticle
3.5-10x50mm Burris Fullfield 30 European, Illum Ballistic Plex Reticle
3-9x40mm Burris Fullfield TAC30 Tactical, Illuminated Ballistic Plex Reticle
Bushnell 2.5-10x50mm Elite 4200 Riflescope, 1/4 MOA, Illuminated Reticle
Weaver 2.5-10x50mm Weaver Classic Extreme Riflescope, Illuminated Dual-X Reticle

I am also considering some of the Hawke, Vortex, and Mueller scopes. What do you guys think on that? I am leaning towards 2or3-10x, a 3-12, or a 4-16 powers. Does it matter if it is a 40, 42, 44, or 50 mm Obj?

Re: Optics Advice

For an AR platform, check out the Explore Tactical Railer as well. Let me know if you would like some information.

I have a buddy that can get you a great deal on a great scope!!

You bought a Millet 6-24x56 for your granddaughter!? Did Grandma believe you?

Re: Optics Advice

You guys should consider the sightron SIII series scopes. They are the best for the money paid. Glass is equal or better than scopes listed thus far. Tracking is spot on. Warranty is lifetime replacement warranty.

Re: Optics Advice

You are all over the board on this one, try to narrow it down to 6 or less. Super sniper, Bushnell Elite, Mark2, Burris xtreme, and Ziess conquest are all good choices. You will probably change scopes and rifles half a dozen times to get where a lot of us are now. If you are looking for a good 'intermediate' scope try the Elite 4200 or one of the others listed above. You won't be disappointed. Or you could skip a step and go NF or USO and be done with it, your going to later on anyway the rest of us did

Re: Optics Advice

Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice. I have looked through a buddies NF and your right! They are super clear but a grand+ is out of my budget range. I have no experience with Bushnell, Burris, Zeiss, or Leupold. A guy I know swears by Monarchs but I keep seeing where people have to send them back and wait weeks ro more to get them replace/fixed. So I am a little leary of them. Sure CS is great but I would rather have a scope that has less issues to begin with.

I am considering getting a Laser Genetics Laser Designator for the hog hunting. Any thoughts on that with a certain scope?

Re: Optics Advice

Hey guys, I went by SWFA and met Chris today. He was great and let me look through some different scopes and provided good advice. He is in the scope business and very knowledgable. He helped me narrow it down to a couple of choices. This is what I got:

Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50 w/BDC
Laser Genetics ND3
SWFA SSA high mounts
extra ring top w/ rail to mount the LD

Thanks for all he pointers guys!

1+ The only glass equal to sightron that has been talked about is nightforce! The others are still in the dust. Go with the Vortex or Sightron!
