optics

I am new here-first post...I am in the process of building a M16A4 style rifle that I had during Basic, shot 40/40 with it-I was amazed at it. I have a sabre upper with a rock river lower, two-stage comp trigger...
Any ideas for an optic? I was thinking of an ACOG, I really want something that would be good in both CQB and further out... any ideas?

Two Questions--
1. Anybody out there know what the workup is to build your own m855 rounds? What kind of primer, powder, and bullet? They worked really well in my service rifle...

2. Anybody know the workup for the Black Hills 69 gr BTHP in .223? I am really wondering what kind of powder they use...I have a bolt gun that LOVES them!

Your optics question: on that one you should go to the Optics thread (use the Search function). There are many discussions as to optimal optics for differnet applications. I'm a 3-gunner and I just sold my TA11 and went with a USO 1.25-6x with the C2 reticle (plus I have a secondary JPoint at a 45).

It really depends on your specific application, ranges you shoot, etc. The Trjicons are all great scopes -- if I was forced to pick one for general purpose, it would be high on my list. The brigtness, eye relief, etc. is great. Just not optimal for my application.

The new 1-8x scopes that are coming out are kind of the new wave.

You don't state a 'budget' and you don't define 'farther out'.

This being said, I have a Super Sniper 16x on a 20" Gov. profile and for target shooting, it's fine.

I may throw a Zeiss 4.5-14x50 Conquest on there the next time out, for shits and giggles.

As previously mentioned, the optic question should be posted under the Optic Section. You probably will get more responses that way. Having said that, I have the ACOG system on my M4. Love it.
