I finally decided to get a colt which I always wanted. I also wanted something with front flip sights. I figured it would be less expensive to get the 6940 because it already has the front flip sights and rails.

Also this is the first AR with a 1/7" twist. All the ammo I have is 55g. Will I be more accurate getting rid of all the 55g and getting 62g. Thanks

The 55gr will shoot just fine, you are unlikely to see any difference in accuracy with it vs. the 62gr stuff. The quality of the ammo is more important than the weight of the projectile.

You should be fine. The faster twist is just better able to stablize the heavier and longer bullets. That being said, all barrels have a preference for different things. You should definately try an assortment of different weights and loads to find out what your gun would prefer.

In my experience there is often a best-ammo for each firearm. If you think your gun should be shooting tighter groups than it is, it's time to experiment. If you don't handload, buy more expensive ammo. You do get what you pay for in ammo.

I purchased just the Colt 6940 upper about ten years ago and put it on a Colt R6700 lower. Shoots great with the heaver bullets. Not as well with 55 gr bullets.
