So Space.com recommends letting you eyes adjust for a long time in order to be able to see the Orionids this evening.

Let my eyes adjust? A pair of DTNVGs sorted that out quick.

Spectacular really.

Plopped a rocking chair in the middle of my pasture last night and watched from 2200-0100, equipped with my L3 FWP 2500 FOM RPO's DTNVGs. I don't get to use them much anymore since I switched to dual Skeets, but this is one thing the Skeets just can't do.

It's absolutely amazing what you see with NV that you miss with the nekkid aye. The different types of meteors -- slow-moving bright burners, fast moving, and then the random ZIP that is visible for 1/10 of a second and moving incredibly fast. Conservatively, you see 10x the action with NV that you'd otherwise miss without.

@Horta. Full on right.

early summer when the fireflies are out is equally amazing.

And talk about the $10,000 solution to a $200 problem, I used the DTNVGs to find a lost Fi tracking collar from one of the dogs. I set the collar to “lost dog mode”, got within 30 meters of it with the gps app and then found the collar under a thorn bush. Would never have found it otherwise because the blinks light in lost dog mode aren’t that much if the collar is off the dog.
