OK so..

To get this into context..

First xray is of my foot. As you can see it's pretty fucked up. An IED will do that shit 😂

Second is a 3d image of my knee., or what's left of it..

So I get an email off the a MO as I had beme back. I get a lot of pain in my feet, legs and ankles because I put too much weight on my right leg which causes a lot of foot and ankle pain and my left leg becsuse of my knee as its bone on bone. The MO reckoned that a way to alleviate a lot of the pain was to get orthopedic boots and shoes made.. So the MO wrote me a brilliant letter recommending them and now it transpires that the Department of Defence is paying for them. So I'm getting a pair or ankle boots to wear with jeans and a pair of dress shoes to wear with a suit and a sneaker type shoe for everyday wear.

Question is : Any of you guys have the same footware and if so does it help with legs and feet and ankle pain and how long have you been using it.

My doctor reckons that the footware I'm getting will evenly distribute my weight and balance out my equilibrium and lessen the pain a lot. I have checked around and basic prices for handmade shoes and boots over start at about 600 a pair so they aren't cheap. And thats only the shoes,

I hope in the area in which you live you have some choices for orthotics aka footbeds finding a biomechanics specialist is key to getting a fit that works toward comfort and support of your feet knees. You will need a deep shoe to accommodate the orthotics look for someone who can modify the soles to help your gait rocker sole etc. it will take a lot of IN search time and phone calls to weed out what you don’t need .True custom shoe makers are few and far between. Plan on a minimum $1000.00 on up per pair, there a lot of mediocre “specialists “ docs who can tell you yep you got something wrong but can’t help alleviate any pain Try contacting ( in west Cololrado ) Foot Support Group and ask if they have a referral close to where you live 970-424-2727 .

The guy I will be seeing on the 8th May of the lock down is over is the main guy the hospitals use so he comes recommended. Thing is I don't want to end up with boots loking like Lurch from The Adams Family. The army MO I seen said he's sent a few guys to him as well and all seem quite happy. So I'm hoping he does an OK job for me. I don't want shoes or boots that are identified as orthopedic.

Damn, sorry for your pain. After years of pounding cement, pavement and hard floors, I ended up having a bone start to punch thru the bottom of my left foot. After a couple of surgeries and a long healing process, I ended up wearing a brace with special shoes attached. Can't articulate my ankle, so, I hobble around like a 110 y.o. man. So.....to answer your question, yes it does relieve the pain, especially if you have to stand for long periods. They look great when you have pants on (add sarcasm here), but, with shorts, not so much. I got lucky with my 2nd Ortho. doc, he had more options for boots and gauntlets for the brace, so, it looks more "stylish", compared to my original leather one. Good luck! Mac(y)

The VA provided me with orthopedic inserts - custom fit to my feet.

About six months later, they did what I considered major surgery to realign (plates and screws) my right foot.

It looks like I need new inserts - to fit my new foot.

I've needed to wear/use these things, since '04. With all of my ankle, knee, and pelvis issues..... these 'inserts and special shoes' definitely DO help, but they don't do anything in the "healing/fixing" department. All they do is "alleviate" some of the symptoms or side-effects. Bone-on-bone ain't going to go away until they install a bushing between them. :D

But your gait will be 'better' and your posture will be 'straighter'. All that COULD enable you to increase your endurance so that you can walk further or stand longer. Just realize that it is all 'symptomatic' in that the issues are all still there, and not changing. This is a means of 'adapting' to the 'new way of doing things....'

Good to see you here buddy.

Edward,
I have the same problem you have. I tried many things to improve my walking abilities and pain management.
I had inserts they were ok buy helped for awhile. In my opion not for the long term.
I had a few pair of shoes made. They aren't pretty but they do work. If it works don't worry about the cost.
I don't know where location is but google Hanger Clinic they have offices all over.
They specialize in orthotic devices. I got my last several pairs from them ans am very happy.
Find the best you can if it's not right you'll know it.
Let me know if you need more info.
Take Care,
Thud

To add to my story... Sean the Nailer, is correct. I lost about 1/3 of the bone(s) in my left foot and due to this fact, this white man can't run or jump anymore, but, it was either that or lose my left foot/leg, up to the knee. I chose to keep the foot and wear the brace/shoe, with special inserts. Balancing/ climbing inclines, just sucks and I use a walking stick, when I'm doing anything cross-country. Lots of people in worse condition than I am, so, I adapt and overcome, along with trying not to bitch too much. You'll be fine, just remember, your life will change some, but, it's not the end of the world. Mac:cool:

got some doctor soles gels inserts but guess i have been lucky not to have foot problems as of yet on top of all the other health issues that i already have . Starts to wonder if he did not just push his luck with saying that . lol

I don’t have custom shoes, but I do have custom orthotics and they have done a tremendous job at curing my plantar fasciitis. Been using them for years. When I first got them, the pain in my knees and ankles went away within the first day of using them. I hope they work out for you and the pain goes away.

The pain can get quite bad at time to the piint that I can't walk properly it even at all.

I can't complain though. I am interested to see how these things make any difference

Iwbad looking at the styles and they have beme quite diverse. Thinking now an everyday pair of boots, a pair for going out, the dressy style, and then a pair of sneaker type shoes.
