Over gassed due to large gas port?

i have two 16" mid length ar15s. One is a smith and Wesson with a standard/gov profile barrel. When shooting my predator hunting hand loads that are loaded near max according to noslers load data, it ejects at about 3 o'clock. Now that same exact load in my newly built ar15 ( not all same brand parts aka Frankenstein build) it recoils hard and ejects brass at about 1 o'clock. The only difference between the two is my new build has a faxon gunner barrel. I can't find any info on the smith and Wesson gov 16" barrel gas port so I'm using the info from faxon barrels. Faxon 16" gov/m4 barrel has a gas port size of .068 and their gunner barrel has a gas port size of .081".
I have two questions. One, could that be the cause of my over gassed rifle with all other things being equal including buffer weight? Two, why would they make a thinner profile barrel (gunner) with a larger gas port vs the thicker profile barrel (gov/m4) with a smaller gas port? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Thanks in advance for any input!

I talked to someone at Faxon around the time they introduced the Gunner barrels. Sounded like they had 3 gunners in mind and planned for either light loads or AGB's so the bigger gas port makes sense.
