Any Negative effects of having an oversized barrel inlet?

Currently I have a Remington Varmint contour barrel, and an HTG stock.
The stock is a McMillan right now getting the adjustable spacer system installed. I'm wondering if its worth it to have the barrel channel opened for future barrel install, since its in there possession now.

Re: Oversized barrel Inlet

C- As your stock has already been bedded for your present barrel, I suggest you leave the channel alone until you get the new barrel and you are ready to install. I believe your stock is bedded an inch or so past the recoil lug, so opening the channel may F' that up. Any good smith can open the channel when it is time to install the barrel (Bob in particular).

Scout has it right plus when your ready for a barrel you may decide to stick with a varmint taper instead of a axle from a Dana 60
