Not sure if this is the place for this but....

Does anybody have experience removing paint from a rifle? I have heard of using DOT3.

I don't have a need to do this now but before I start painting I would like to know what's the best way to wipe the slate clean?

Thanks,
Kyle

Re: Pait removal

Water is the solvent for brake fluid (hygroscopic and all that).
I would strongly suggest not using it, it fuxorz everything in a quick hurry.

Wurth (brand) makes a *rubber* wheel you put in a drill that will remove any paint and not scratch a thing...and it smells absolutely edible

kind of like coconut and pineapple.
The Wurth part number is 585 but I can't find them online other than this pic...

Well, I recently found out that Wipe Out foaming bore cleaner completley melts and disolves Aluma-Hyde II, I mean not a trace of paint left. YMMV.

CitriStrip and acetone also do wonders.

Re: Pait removal

Some awesome advise. Knowing some different ways to get the paint off the rifle makes me less worried about getting artistic. But the guys that take paint to their $3k scopes have balls of steel!

A buddy of mine had a HK SL-8 that someone painted black instead of doing the dye job. He used DOT3 to take the paint off. Looked like it worked well.

Different area but I read somewhere that V8 takes bluing off easily, I guess due to the acid from the tomatoes. Thought it was worth mentioning here.

Thanks,
Kyle
