Gunsmithing Painting/coating the bolt ???

Re: Painting/coating the bolt ???

You can do it either way. Duracoat, cerakote etc... are build up finishes so you have to be aware of how much you increase diameter in bolt body. Over .003" and you could have issues closing the bolt (that's .0015" per side). Also lug contact, bolt face area build up can change headspace so the spray gun needs to be adjusted correctly to apply total coverage with out too much build up.

Don't know about durakote because I've never used it, but it can be done with either "C" or "H" cerakote if done properly.

Here's one with the bolt head and lug contact areas taped off before coating.

KG Guncoat is the thinnest. Makes for a good friction coating too. Otherwise I use Cerakote H series. Duracoat and Cerakote C series tend to be high build for bolts and arent nearly as smooth operating as the heat cures.
