Use the plastic netting a custom barrel comes wrap in. Spray your first base coat and let in cure. The next step is slip the netting over the barrel and spray. I misted until desire thickness of look. I also tape the last inch of the barrel. Some people has asked what type of carbon barrel is it. It will give it that look.

All 3 paints are the same netting. I will post a picture of the netting later.

Hey all you guys that do allot of Krylon painting...I have a question, what do you use, what is the best method for REMOVING the paint from a scope and rifle?

Re: Painting Rifle barrel and Rifle

you don't want them to get overly hot anyhow, it shouldn't be much of an issue LS6TT

Good job Dar, they all look great! When my USO arrives and the Atlas is installed... Might come back to this thread, give me motivation to paint it all.

Re: Painting Rifle barrel and Rifle

I use ALUMA-HYDE from Brownells. I have used krylon. It will work just fine. The Aluma-hide takes a little longer to cure. I think it might be a tad bit more durable.

I did my scope last night in the same pattern 2 days ago. I will post some pictures later today. I will also post the sprays I used with the pattern.

Good luck

Re: Painting Rifle barrel and Rifle

Here is the paint and degreaser I used. You should always degreaser the metal before painting. Brownells also has a video on painting. By far this is not a professional job but for a field gun this will work great.
I recently had 2 45s painted by Todd from KC. Excellent work. These patterns will hide alot of mistakes. If you have an old barrel start with it first. Try different things with it. Once you have what you want. Go for it.

This paint job will give you a carbon barrel affect. Spray your first coat in black, let if fully cure. Next tape the end of the barrel about an inch. Pull the netting over the barrel and mist until desire look. Let fully cure and there you go.
