Ok, I have started on a new adventure with a Badger M2008 SA and a AICS 2.0 but this is as far as I have gone. I have been reading throughout these forums for a while now but cannot decide what type of barrels and trigger to get for it.

First off, I want to have a .260, .308, .243 all with shorter barrels as I would be carrying it around for a while. I would like to use it varminting and even deer hunting and punching paper from a distance of at least 500 yds with the .308/.260.

My question is what barrel contours work well with the AICS? I am thinking 22" max on the length of any of them as well. How would that work for a .243 and what kind of twist would be recommended? Same thing for the .260 and .308. I would like to lighten the rifle a little as well (I know that sounds impossible) which barrel types would be light and fit in a AICS?

.260 20" 1-8.5 twist, M40 contour or light varmint maybe?
.243 is new to me
.308 20" 1-12, M40

Last what trigger would anyone recommend? I have a Jewell on a couple of my rifles and I am thinking about going the same route.

I am mainly torn on what would be good barrels to get for it. I do not reload at this moment so I will be stuck with factory loads for all. I do use FGMM 168's in my .308 but have little experience with the others.

Any and all information would be appreciated, I know I left some stuff out but it is late for me and I am hitting the rack. I will take pics and let everyone know how it turns out in the end.

Re: Parts for a M2008

If it were me, and I do have a M2008 in an AICS, I'd do this.

260 24-26" barrel w/ 1-8" (I have on order)
243 24-26" barrel w/ 1-7.75" (I have 6x47L @ 26")
308 18" barrel w/ 1-10" (being chambered now)

The AICS is a heavy stock, I'd look into the Med. Palma profile to save weight. All the above barrels that I have are Med Palma contour.

I'd explain further, but typing one handed w/ baby girl in other arm, I'll expand later.

Re: Parts for a M2008

I'm doing a similar project and would recommend you check out the CG Jackson and Huber tactical triggers. I went with the Huber because of the difficulty dirt and sand have of getting into the trigger mechanism.

Barrel-wise, this is probably going to end up being decided by your builder. He'll likely have a couple barrels he works with the most and that's probably what you'll get unless you just have to have a certain company's blank. From what I understand, there's not much difference in barrel blanks from the different manufacturers in all reality.

And I'm completely in agreement with Jason on the short barrel 308. If you've already got the longer 243 and 260 barrels, go short (16-18") and get a can for it. There's some pics on the M2008 thread of a rifle like this and it's badass. Hope this helps.

Re: Parts for a M2008

The m40 contour is a BOAT ANCHOR and in a 2.0 weighs a metric ton.

Either flute the HELL out of it or go with something like, as Jason said, Med Palma.

Mine has a 24" 6.5x47, 8.2 twist m24 Rock and a 22" .308., 10 twist Patriot contour Broughton. The latter being a MUCH more user friendly weight.

Re: Parts for a M2008

The 2.0 is heavy. Since you're going to be carrying this I would go with a fluted varmint contour. I went with a 16.25 inch Heavy contour with my 2.0 2008 build and it's still heavy (wish I would have gone lighter). Also, you should consider what your max distance will be then pick the barrel for that distance ie an 18 inch 308 will make 1000 yards but not the best tool for the job.

Re: Parts for a M2008

Thanks for the info, I do want a lighter rifle and will count out the M40 for now. More questions for ya,

What factory round goes well with the 18" 1-10 -.308?
Same thing for the .243 in a 1-8 and what barrel length do you suggest?
Same for .260 with a 22" barrel 1-8.5?

Also, do you keep the same scope on and know your zero for each from platform to platform?

Re: Parts for a M2008

My barrel lengths above is what I still recommend, 243 and 260 both really see the benefit of a minimum 24" length IMHO (and 26" even better). I'd go 1-8 in the 260, but I'm a fan of twist and being able to use even the longest bullets like JLKs

Re: Parts for a M2008

In 260 Remington...

I'm running the 139gr Scenar @ ~2800fps.

22" Lilja 1:8" twist, Winchester 7mm08 brass, CCI BR2 primer and 43.5gr H4350.

Time will tell if this is "too hot".

Guy I know is running the 142gn SMK @ ~2850 with a 28" barrel. Winchester 243 brass, H4831sc powder. >10 reloads on the same brass.
