Phokus Hoplite vs Matbock Tarsier

In stock - ready to ship

The quick and dirty compare and contrast. Using night vision we have all had the chance to do the goose step and while you are mastering the funky chicken you are attempting to see coyote, hog, werewolf etc out on the horizon. Phokus Research’s Hoplite and Matbock Tarsier Eclipse both accomplish this objective. See company blurbs below.

Phokus Ring – is not as cumbersome and weighs .2oz less than the Tarsier and has polycarbonate for lens. Price at $110 MSRP and MAP of $100.00 its an attractive option.

Tarsier Eclipse – is fully adjustable. For any user with non-manual gain units this is a must for you. You have infinite control! With corning glass the system is more scratch resistance over the polycarbonate. Now you can see little bunny fufu versus thinking it is a stump. MSRP is $200.00.

Phokus Research Hoplite - Night Vision Refocus Ring

The Hoplite was developed by SOF end users to reduce far to near focusing time accomplished through our hinged aperture control. Our patented technology provides unrivaled speed for target identification of threats at 5 feet or 300 yards. Our hinged cover gives soldiers a critical advantage by allowing NVG’s to stay focused out to infinity while simultaneously allowing Target ID of near threats by flipping the cover closed. Soldiers commonly modify their dust covers to gain this same advantage only to discover unreliable transitioning and functional inconsistency. Equipment protection was our next concern. Tens of thousands of NVG’s are damaged each year due to lens scratches and cracks. Our improved Hoplite design replaces your existing dust cover and sacrificial lens. Experience 21st century technological advantage while protecting your gear!

This was a Lot of fun to film this last summer. I had been speaking to the inventors for a while and they had sent me out samples to test. I had an opportunity to show them off while we were doing a demo for the Ada County Sheriffs office and the Park Rangers as they were looking at our new Dual 14 mount for their waterborne operations up on the reservoir. Dual 14s now give them the Ability to traverse the lake safely, effectively and execute search and rescue operations if needed. Even with the most powerful lights on a boat you can still see much farther with Night Vision. This was a no moon, just starlight night and the use the Tarsier Eclipse was just fine.

Both the Phokus Hoplite and the Matbock Tarsier use the stopping down technique and to get the most effect out of these there is a technique we teach in our training that allows you to get incredible depth of field with the least amount of light loss. Stay tuned for more on both these great products.
