Those are sporting rifles? I would have thought more run of the mill hunting guns would be sporting rifles.

They're quite sporting if you want to win the match.

The name of the match comes from how the idea for the match was pitched to NRAWC. The idea of a "hunting" match was a lot more palatable at that time than anything else.
