Curious what kind of groups guys are getting with their 10/22 setup.

I’ve been very impressed with the accuracy of the bolt actions 22lr rifles but I’m curious about those 10/22 groups.

Can you post your groups and let us know the modifications?

I’m trying to learn a few things

I have a 10/22 build that was worked over by Joe Chacon, he put a Shilen ratchet rifled barrel with PRX tuner on my gun and it shoots fantastic and equal to most guys bolt guns out at 50yds benchrest. My build uses a CST Centrix receiver,
match bolt, Kidd two stage trigger. Some guys use a chassis which I started out with but came across a nice used benchrest wood laminated model which it sits in currently. I’ve attached a few photos of 50 yd groups and targets shot with Center-X.

That target pic is nice!

This is the five shot test target after zeroing at 25 yards for the rifles I built for my nephews. They only ruger part on the rifle is the trigger which has had a little work done to it. Built two identical rifles other than the initials on the bolt. They both shot like this, Barracuda stock, added pillars and a brass screw that indexed with the cleaning hole in the Tactical Machining receiver, JWH bolt, Green Mountain Barrel, topped with a midway special 4-14 mil hash scope. All together with a hard case I think I had about $600 each in them. Each had a test target in the case when they got them for Christmas.

cool great shots , now stretch it out further say 82 ft 24 yards or even 50 yards then repeat and try 100 yards then 200 and keep going till you cant go no more .

It will do about the same at 50, no problem hitting chickens on the steel range at 200 meters. We would knock them off the rail by shooting them in the head and tail to rock them off. Hangs with my Bergara till about 200 but I'm shooting better ammo in the Bergara. I've got lots off CCI SV so that it used in the 10/22's

This is with a Ruger 1022 LVT model. Shooting CCI SV at 50 yards.

350 yards with my 10-22. 20" steel target, 50 shots shooting 3,4 or 5 shots at a time, firing them before I heard the impact of the first shot of the burst. I counted 49 hits. :)
So roughly 5.7moa. That actually seems really good. My 10/22 was shooting between 8 and 10 inch groups at 200. Rule of thumb seems to be double the distance then 3-4 times the group size, so my group would be 30-40 inches at your distance. This is with CCI mini mags. The gun won't reliably cycle standard velocity ammo.

What ammo and barrel?

That target was shot very rapidly. 3,4 and 5 shot bursts with about 1/4 second splits between shots. I was seeing how many shots I could get off before I heard the ring on steel of the first shot of the burst. The Kidd 2 stage trigger helped a lot. ;) It was probably SK Biathlon Sport ammo. It has a Hogue barrel. I bought the gun used from a buddy. I sent it to CPC for action and barrel work. It shoots pretty good for a 10-22.

When the weather gets warmer I will try for a slow fire group to see what happens.
