What is the correct length for pillars?

I was under the impression the there should be direct contact between receiver, pillar and bottom metal so there is no appreciable stock to bottom metal pressure.

Bingo.

Re: Pillar length??

I have read here, I believe, that there should be .003" or so clearance betweent the pillar and the action or you will get vertical stringing.

I would love to hear wnroscoe or other builders comment.

You have been misguided. I bed all new rifles and stocks for full contact with the pillars. Re-beds are just skim bedded.
