I would like to put together a set of pistol drills and standards, that I can use for doing my own comparisons and testing with different pistols and equipment.

I have quite a few drills that I enjoy, but I would love to get something put together that covers a little bit of everything, and that I can use to start tracking my own proficiency with different things.

Bottom line, what are your favorite drills?

Guys to follow who make solid drills:
Ben Steoger (@benstoeger)
Matt Pranka (@xray.alpha.llc)
Joel Park (@joel.park_)
Hwansik Kim (@hkimshooting)
Billy Barton (@p3_performance)
Achilles Heel Tactical
Point 1 Tactics
Modern Samurai Project
Lucas Botkin (T-rex Arms)

All those guys have drills and "standards" they have and use for assessing all aspects of shooting

Drills/Standards:
Bill Drill
Billy Drill (bill drills at 7/15/25yds)
Track the A-zone
Near/Far transitions
Covered target transitions
DOPE drill (5/10/15/20/25yds - 5shots on A-zone as fast as possible)
Triples or Quads drill -- 15-25yds on A-zone
FAST drill (7-15yds - 2 shots head, slide lock reload 4 shots A zone)
Point 1 tactics cold standard
Tier 1 Concealed Three Sevens drill

USPSA classifiers add a little bit of movement and give you thousands of other people to compare your times against.

Thanks! I use a few of those and have “followed” a few of those guys content (on YouTube at least since I don’t have instagram)

I’ll look up a couple of the drills I don’t recognize.

I shoot quite a bit, and do a bunch of stuff as is, I just thought it would be cool to get everyone’s “favorite” and make a Best Of you will.

I do enjoy setting up some classifiers every once in a while. But they can definitely be humbling.
They certainly can be. Everytime I think I'm pretty special I'll shoot a match with a classifier or two. I get lucky a good bit but I definitely lack the consistency you get from serious focused repetition.
That said, I don't put a ton of stock in stand and shoot skills.

This.

I'd say the most that have helped me would be:
-2R2 (2, reload, 2)
-DOPE/Bill drills mixed w/ transitions.
-Track the A-zone

CSAT’s standards: Keep in mind that hits only count if they land in the CNS box on a target like this:

The drills below drills are designed with three purposes in mind:

  1. A measurable standard to maintain.
  2. An efficient stair-stepped workout program that covers all the bases.
  3. To test the individual shooter at various times to show areas needing improvement.

Only score shots in the center box and head of the CSAT target. If an enemy turns sideways, that will be all the shooter has to engage, resulting in the appropriate size kill zone.

DISTANCE / STANDARD

  1. Ready 1 shot 1 target 7 yards 1 SEC
  2. Holster 1 shot 1 target 7 yards 1.7 SEC
  3. Ready 2 shots 1 target 7 yards 1.5 SEC
  4. Ready 5/1 shots 1 target 7 yards 3 SEC
  5. Ready 4 shots 2x target 7 yards 3 SEC
  6. Ready 4 shots 2x weak/2x strong (1target) 5 SEC
  7. Ready 1 shot Malfunction drill (1 target) 3 SEC
  8. Ready 4 shots 2 Reload 2 (1 target) 5 SEC
  9. Rifle up 1 shot Dry fire/transition 3.25
  10. Holster 1 shot Kneeling (1 target) 25 yards 3.25

Total: 25 Rounds
