Pistol Primers and Trailboss for .308 sub loads?

Why are some people using a Large pistol primer for Trailboss in .308 subsonic loads and others are using regular large rifle primers?

What is the benifit or danger of using one over the other? I'm new to the world of subsonic large caliber reloading and want to make sure I do it right.

Depending on the manufacturer, the metal alloy can change, as well as the thickness. Anyone that uses them interchangably is asking for an accident somewhere down the road.

But that's just my opinion. You do what you feel you must do.

There is a possible occurance called secondary explosive effect and it is bad.
I have seen quite a few SS loads using Mag primers.
I believe the use of Mag primers is a more positive ignition if the podwer column.
Like Victor says the use of thinner,milder pistol primers can be dangerous.

(Not trailboss) but I use only small pistol primers in my whisper load. With shooting Sub-sonic Only . with AA#9 as powder with no ill effects.
But I use the small pistol primers only and that is what my load is dialed-up for also.

Myself, I have used trailboss Only for to fill the huge empty .308 case volume on subsonic loads. As the trailboss is some fluffy stuff. That is about all you can use to fill the void with good results on the .308 subsonic.
I never thought there be enough case volume available in a tiny necked-up 30-221 case with shoving a big 240 grn. down it to even use the Trailboss.
Are you compressing the the crap out of the big fluffed flake Trailboss powder in the small 30-221/whisper subsonic load ???
