This was cut off a Shilen 308 barrel after 100 rounds suppressed with an AAC Cyclone. The the owner used lubriplate 130-A on the threads. Could this have caused the pitting? The only other chemicals that came into contact with the barrel were used during the chambering and threading process and during refinishing.

Re: Pitting on crown

There was a topic here before about people leaving cans on rifles, stored can up.
Moisture from inside the can will drain back onto the crown and inside the barrel and cause what you have there.

Cans catch powder fouling and hold it in the baffles. When cans are fired and cool, they have moisture form and gather in the fouling. And under certain conditions, see above.

I've seen loads like this, all from storing cans on guns muzzle up, we find its normally the end 6" of barrel, so he's lucky is only half an inch.
