i have a large ring mauser action with rust pitting , is there a way to fix this or just junk it, this is where the action to stock fit waas and out side of reciever internals look pretty good.

Re: pitting on mauser large ring action

If its below the wood line, stop the corosion, refinish, and don't worry about it. Above the woodline you can polish out what you can and fill the pits you cant with spots of weld (pain in the ass with risks), or Devcon/Marinetex/etc and coat over it.

Our honest take on the whole Mauser based builds is this (keep in mind I shoot a mauser build): If you wanted a pretty/perfect rifle, you should have bought a pretty/perfect action. You build on the grand daddy of bolt guns, expect some character marks.

Good luck, and feel free to pm me if you need anything.

Re: pitting on mauser large ring action

Like he said, sand em out as best you can then just use it.

It's fine as long as the pitting isn't too deep, which it's not. If it was too deep there'd be no question.

The Mausers we got in school looked like they were pulled from a WWII ditch.

Kenda, were you and yours at the NM match that Score High put on? Or am I thinking of another couple?

And Mark, is anyone from school doing bluing still? I may have asked you when you were over last time, but I forgot. I asked Tim and he said he didnt think so. Wyatt and Brian were working on it but never got set up.

I want my 22 blued..

I don't know of anyone doing hot bluing. I have plenty of Rust Blue Juice if you want to go that route.

Danny has tanks but has never set them up. I've even offered to pay to get them plumbed up, blue for him once a month so long as I could use them also. But didn't seem interested.</span>
