+1 Buy once fired brass, read all he threads on reloading here and buy a used reloading book. You won't look back.
Even if you got a deal on the bulk you could probably pay for a single stage used reloading setup in 2000 rounds.
No matter what deal you find on bulk you can reload cheaper and more accurate ammo yourself. The only exception being shotshell.
Look at your local gun shops too...You could be suprised at the deals you will find. I found the cheapest .50 ammo at my local store at 250 bucks tax free federal xm33c per 100 rds. I also picked up a case of 1000 5.56 PMC green tip for I think 280 tax free. It has beem a while since I bought the 5.56 ammo though so it may be more now. I know they sell on gunbroker too...sportsmanssupply is their seller name. http://sportsmanssupplyco.com/
Outside of ammo seek I buy from ammoman.com all the time. Their prices include shipping and they post pics and up to date as to whether it is in stock or not.

If you happen to be looking for 7.62 ammo, HERE is a constantly updated list of sources and prices, mainly surplus 7.62 from around the world. The vendors mentioned usually have good deals on other caliber ammo, too.
And +1 on what jAXDIALATION said above. I bought a case of .223 back in '80, about the same time I also started reloading. A couple months ago I forced myself to shoot the last of that case. It just couldn't compare with my reloads.
I will say in all honesty that it takes a while for reloads to catch up with the premium ammo in terms of longer range accuracy just because it takes a while to develop the knowledge and skills to reload that level of ammo. I was making great 100 yard ammo right off the bat, but it took a while (and better tools) to make the really good stuff.
As with many things in life, the price of ammo fluctuates. Who has the best deal at any point in time also tends to vary. If you want the best deal, it always pays to shop around each time before you buy, as no one place has the best prices on all ammo all the time.
