loading them for my usp and usc, if i recall back when i loaded 45acp the plated ones seemed well rather soft, if you didnt size the casing just right it would roll the plated when you seated them, size to much and well you know how that goes.

that was back then and i didnt have you guys for help so when loading 45acp would you go with jacked or plated ?

Re: plated vs jacketed ?

Whatever I can get the best deal on when I am buying.

If your talking plated bullets like the Rainier's or what have you then your talking simple plinking style bullets. At this level I buy whatever I can get the best deal on. I have loaded lots and lots of Rainier's and never had any issues with shearing the plating off. I use the lee classic turret press and the pro-auto disk powder drop. I set the powder through die & powder measure up to put a very very slight bell on the case mouth when the powder is dropped. Then after seating run them through a lee factory crimp die. No issues.

Rainier plated bullets should be loaded with cast data. They are plated soft lead. They will peel if the jacket isn't flared slightly. I shoot them for bullseye because they are cleaner than lubed lead.

Re: plated vs jacketed ?

I've had fair luck with the Ranier bullets. They work well, but haven't been the most accurate for me. I load them anyways with the understanding that I'm loading for a handgun and not a precision rifle.

I've also got a .pdf file that was produced by Midway USA that has load data for the Ranier bullets. If anyone is interested, pm me your email address and I'll forward it to ya.
