I have a ruger-esque tactical solutions .22 X-Ring complete rifle setup. I bought this complete gun about a year ago from a local gun shop and have not changed, or added, anything. To date, I have put a few thousand rounds down the barrel and have had nothing but problems. I say 'problems' in the plural, but really, it is just one problem occurring again and again. I have sent the gun back to TacSol, where, as they said, disassembled the rifle, changed a few of the internals, reassembled, shot to confirm it was fixed, and then sent the rifle back. I have a bit of doubt regarding their supposed fix, because when the rifle arrived back to me, it became very apparent the tech. had reassembled the rifle incorrectly and the safety mechanism and spring was turned the wrong way to the point where the rifle could not fire because the safety could not be deactivated. However, the safety has nothing to do with the problem.

The Problem: The gun experiences a failure to feed, or failure to cycle, on average, one out of 4-5 rounds. This failure manifests itself in about 3 common ways. About 40% of the time, the bolt will eject the spent casing, and then on it's return stroke, the tab that is supposed to feed the next round from the mag into the breach will fail to grab the rim of the casing, but will instead either jam into the exposed side of the casing, This will cause the bolt to lock up and the mag must be released before the bolt can be re-cycled.
Another 30% of the time, the bolt will travel backwards, without ejecting the spent casing and then feed a round from the magazine into the spent casing that is stuck in the breach. This, of course, causes the bolt to lock up, and the mag must be released. Then, if the bolt is returned forward, again, the ejector will the grab the spent casing and extract it.
The other problem occurring the remainder of the failures, is a failure to eject. The rifle will fire, the bolt will make a full cycle to the rear, back forward, without picking up a new round, and seat against the spent casing. The gun will of course snap, and then by charging the rifle normally, it will eject the spent casing, and load a fresh round.

If I can't work these problems out, I will return it to TacSol again and hopefully get some kind of refund. If anybody here has experienced these problems and knows of a fix, please let me know.

thanks,
SF

Re: Please Advise! Tactical Solutions X-Ring Problem

As an addendum, I have tried multiple brands of ammo. As in almost all that is out there, for hundreds of rounds. I have also tried a multiplicity of magazines. From stock ruger 10 rd. mags, to bulter creek steel lips, to the new ruger 25 rounder. Regardless of any of this, the same basic problems manifest themselves in the same percentages of total rounds fired. All this to say, regardless of the common fixes to picky .22s, the gun still fails the same way, and the same number of times.

+1 on this.

Also, you might fare better with this question in the Rimfire section of the forum and not the semi-auto section (althought I do realize that technically it is a semi-auto).
