Hi...I've only taken my x-bolt .270 to the range 4 times, but today i was shooting an inch high from where i had been the previous couple of times. I have a Bushnell Elite scope mounted with 4 screws on each mount and everything seems tight. I was still grouping, but an inch off where i had been. Im a very new shooter and this is my first gun with a scope. Is it possible I was doing something different today than i had been? Im not a pro yet, so Im thinking it could be the lack of muscle memory. Is it common to make minor adjustments to the scope (2 clicks) now and then? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I didn't know where else to ask. Thanks.Oh, I was using the same ammo as i always had.

Wood stock ?

Well, there ya go...wood shift.
It's that or temp, or humidity, or altitude, or you weren't sticking your tongue out of the same side of your mouth...

1" shift in point of impact is nothing in a box stock rifle.
You should actually expect it and have solutions ready to correct it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had been shooting in 50 -60 degree weather, and it is 90 today. I didn't realize temp / humidity could effect it as such.I did try and stick my tongue out the same side as usual though..

The night before you go shooting, let the firearm sit out in a garage if possible, then before you go shooting, torque the action screws to the recommended value. Also, make sure the barrel is truly free floated. Once that you have those variables accounted for, all other differences can be blamed on the wood stock.
