I just got my scope(NF 3.5-15x50) today for the 700/AICS stage 2 and will get the NF rings.
I'm concerned about getting rings that are to low, causing me to tilt my head in order to get cheek weld.

If possible, would anyone have this set up and advise.

Re: PLEASE need help on AICS stage 2 and ring height

On the AICS stocks that I have had, well I needed to put extra high rings on. I didn't have to do this for scope objective clearance I had to do it for cheek clearance. With anything other than extra high rings it was uncomfortable to get my cheek down low enough to properly look through the scope. Kinda had to squish your face down fairly hard to get a proper look through the scope. I choose extra high rings to be able to utilize the adjustable cheek piece feature of the stock. The rifle is now more comfortable to shoot. Just my experience your mileage may vary.

Cool, How high did you have the cheekpiece after this? Ideally, I would like to have it down.

I have a 5x22x50 on a aics and I got the burris xtr medium rings.
Scope clears my heavy barrel and I only needed to raise my cheekpiece about 1/8-1/4 inch.

Hope this helps.

Re: PLEASE need help on AICS stage 2 and ring height

I have personally never had a problem with cheek weld on an AICS. I know some have. It is a shooter by shooter basis.

I am currently running a 56mm obj. with a 34mm tube. I am using Seekins High rings (which are still pretty low with a 34mm tube) and have to raise my cheek peice about a 1/4 of an inch.

The brand and height of yor base will also have a big impact on this.

Look in the stickys, there is a topic about ring height. It details a method of using stacks of change to determine height. Go through the process and figure out what is the best mounting height for you.

Re: PLEASE need help on AICS stage 2 and ring height

I've always used something a little taller than 1 inch in height on my 1.5 and 2.0 stocks. Basically, I use the Badger DMR rings for 30 mm. They're, I think 1.18" tall. They fit perfect. I am 6 feet tall and 245lbs of fat so you can figure out from there. I tried the mediums and med/lows, but I had to cram my cheek into the cheek piece. I hope this helps.

I have a Rem 700 SPS Tactical in a AICS 1,5 with a NF 20 MOA base. The scope is a NF 5,5-22x50.

I went with Badger 1" medium rings, mainly because I have a large silencer so anything lower I would see the silencer in low magnification.

Re: PLEASE need help on AICS stage 2 and ring height

Thanks to all who helped out. I got home last night and used some 3M small sticky pads. I stacked them according to ring height and used large rubber bands to hold the scope down. After getting behind the rifle, I found that the 1"(med) worked for me the best, no muscle strain keeping my head in position.

Woohoo!

I will have to deal with this same possible dilemma in the near future.

Currently running a Nightforce Rem 700 20moa base using medium size ultralight nightforce rings.

I think, don't quote me, that individual facial structures between person to person may play a part on the type of ring height one may require.

Im thinking guys with larger, rounder heads will generally needed higher rings.

Those of us with small framed faces may require only medium rings.

Its just like when you go shopping for sunglasses... Some sunnie's look massive on my face, whereas some of my friends cant wear my sunglasses as their wide faces push the arms out beyond their natural position and it just looks wrong.

Mark if you dont mind could you send me a PM when you get your rifle installed in the chasis to let me know if your rings were tall enough?

Re: PLEASE need help on AICS stage 2 and ring height

I sure will, maybe get a pic or two up for you. Not only head size, also how you ride the stock. I like to lay my head down and "fall asleep" on it. If you have to be on it a long time and you are having to lift your head up to keep the shadows out, then it's too high.
I did order the NF mediums in the ultra light, so you may be set.
