PMAG Question

I'm sure this is a rookie question - I bought some PMAG's and haven't used any yet - but I was loading up a 30 round one (one with the windows in the sides) and after I had 30 rounds in it, it didn't look like it was anywhere near being full. It looked like it could easily take another 10 or 15 rounds. Is that right?

The orange indicator spring is in the right place, but it just seems weird that it looks like it'll take that many more rounds, doesn't it?

It's one of these:

Re: PMAG Question

Yep, the extra room is for the spring and follower.

You can physically fit 31 in a PMAG, but your bolt wont be able to strip around from it. It enables you to easily insert a loaded mag on a closed bolt.

Re: PMAG Question

As stated by the previous posts, the extra room in the magazine is for the compressed spring and follower. You can load AR-15 mags up to 31 rounds on most all of them, but you will have problems using it because of the excess pressure.
