Will a stock that has been professionally bedded for a rem 700 action work for another rem 700 action if they are the same model or will it need to be chiseled out and redone?

If it was me, I don't know that I'd go to the trouble of removing ALL of the old bedding compound, but I'd certainly sand it down and/or use something like a Dremel to open up the clearances, clean everything with alcohol, then basically skim bed the "new" action.

Bullets and paper will tell you the truth every time. If it's a hammer, don't "fix it". If it sucks, get out some 180 grit, scuff the existing bedding, and put a fresh skin layer down.

Receivers to vary. Production versions being likely more susceptible. OD centerless grinding does help and a lot of manufacturers do that. Still, you have tang features and any action manufacturer will tell you that machining that feature is a bit of a bitch because the material wants to stress relieve and bow up like a kitty cat being petted along its back. It's just a natural thing that is tough to get around. You could grind after machining the tang, but now your going to suffer surface finish issues because it ends up being an interrupted cut. Grinders typically don't care for that a whole lot.

What I'm describing is very likely why you see more and more aftermarket action companies moving away from the legacy/classic "broad head" style tang common to the M700 and M70 classics. A bummer in my book because I like the elegant appearance. Nice guns are supposed to look organic and swoopy. -Not like a 1980's arcade game. That's just my personal opinion on style so whatever. (not worth much as I buy most of my clothes from the same store I get car tires)

No Costco? The horror.

Metal stress relief is an absolute bitch to work around. I had a couple ~20” x 8” x 1/16” pieces of chromoly sheet that warped almost an inch out of flat when I brought it up to temperature.

I had to go there for the first time in ages. Needed some clay for a bedding job.
After doing the work, I went to put the clay away and found two unopened packs.
Coulda saved myself the trip, but would have missed the entertainment.

At a minimum, rough sand the bedding and drill out the recoil lug area. Any cant of recoil lug will show up in the barrel channel unless you get lucky and they match perfectly. I'd do the above and skim bed
