How many lbs of powder usually go into 1000 rounds of .308? 9mm? what brands are used for .308 and for 9mm. 9mm would be standard combat/range ammo. nothing special. .308 would be precision rounds. 168gr. Basically an imitation of the FGMM round if I can swing it. need advice plz. thanks.

Re: Powder brands and amount

1 lb powder = 7000 grains

Divide 7000 by the charge weight of the powder you want to use to give you the rounds per lb of powder.

Example: 43.3 grains RL-15 (a very popular .308/175SMK load)

7000 divided by 43.3 = ~161 loaded rounds per lb

or

43.3gr times 1000 rounds = 43300 grains powder divided by 7000gr per lb = ~6.2 lbs for 1000 rounds

For rifle loads read the Reloading Depot section at the top of this forum section. I'm partial to RL-15 'cause I try to duplicate M118LR and that's what's factory, others use Varget, IMR4198 or others. There isn't instant gratification in reloading. Pick a starting load and move a little up then a little down to find your rifle's sweet spot for maximum accuracy. Don't start with a maximum load !
