Powder for 10.5” AR pistol 5.56 with 68 & 75 Hornady BTHP

To me, an AR pistol isn't a long range tool so I'm loading clearance price Hornady 50 grain ZMAX for short range stuff. You can probably make that work with CFE223.

High velocity with explosive fragmentation seems good for home defense.

Got a 10.5” pistol 5.56 AR. Looking for powder suggestions for load development. I have both imr 8202 xbr & cfe223.... which would you suggest, and what max load powder drop?

H4895 is my go to for my short barreled tack driver with 55Vmax. I also tried 8208XBR which was a close second with 77's but I didnt build it for long distance. 55Vmax with Aimpoint T2 I have no issues banging steel to 200yds.

This is 25.4g H4895 in 1xLC brass with CCI 200 and 55Vmax - Seating Depth Test 5 shot groups

I use H335 for 5.56 and crank 'em out on a Dillon. I forget the load, wanna say it's 25gr., maybe less, LC brass and a new SS109. CCI41's. Spec. COL. They shoot pretty good, much better than the issue stuff did. And cost less. It's a bit dirty with a can though.

padom, dude...... my load development pretty much confirmed your findings with the 55vmax!! the 55vmax smoked the heavy 68 and 75grn BTHP's by a longggg shot! you should really check this out... looks like I'm loading up 55vmax from now on
