Precision Mic vs Case Gage

If I already have a precision mic in 308, is there any reason to also have a case gage in 308? Maybe the case gage is a quick way to check case overall length? But can't you just set a caliper at the max length and check the cases passing through or not?
Thanks!

Read the Ziedecker links:

A case gauge is generally cut pretty generous and will show you the extremes of both length and width. It is not a good measure of the shoulder.

A Precision Mic is an accurate gauge of the shoulder only.

The Mic is most important in setting up the sizer die. A gauge has very limited use.

Good luck

Mo Zam is right, the precision mic lets you adjust your sizer to move the case shoulder back .001 or .002 to help avoid overworking brass.
I use a Wilson gage for a quick reference for case length and to make sure cases are sized for FL applications. On the Wilson if you are between the steps your ammo should go in any SAAMI chamber with no binding anywhere.

You kind of need both and I use both.

When I chamber my bolt guns with my reamer specs I can fire a case and it will fit in a Wilson Gage as fired so technically I would neck size it and shoot it in a SAAMI chamber with no other case work.

These are best used to extend brass life and let you know where you are.
