I recently bought a long action Remington 700 SPS SS (7mm Remington Magnum) to modify into a precision rifle (shoots out to 1200 yards), but I have a few questions and could use your guys’ help. So here is the plan for the Rifle: AICS 1.5 in green for the stock, an atlas bipod, and either a Nightforce 5.5-22 or 3.5-15 optic. For rings I was think about the Barrett rings (maybe in the distant future I will be able to afford a BORS system.) I haven’t figured out what scope base to use. Are any manufactures better than others? I have heard good things about the badger ordnance base. Should I get a Nightforce base because of the Nightforce optics sitting upon it? Are there any other bases I’ve missed? Am I Skimping anywhere? Are these optics worth the money? Should I get the 50 or 56mm Nightforce? Any suggestion would help me considerably.

1st post... and it shows.

Anyway, I feel that nightforce optics are worth every penny but that is just my opinion. In order for you to determine exactly what you need there are a number of questions you will need to ask yourself.
1) What is the budget for this rifle? (sounds to me like this is going to be about a medium budget build)
2) What are you going to use this rifle for? (competition? Hunting? Target shooting?)
3) How far will most of your shooting take place at? (you say 1200 but do you currently have access to that distance and have you ever shot at distances like that?)
4) What type of ammunition will you be using? (factory or reloads?)

These are just some of the things that you should ask and answer for yourself befor you start your build.
