I've decided I'm going to pull the trigger on ordering a PH 5x25. This is a big purchase for me and I just wanted to get some advice on reticle choice. My buddy has the Gen 2 Mil Dot on his 3x15 Premier. I really like that reticle and was thinking about going with it on the 5x25, now that it's an option.
My question is, does anyone have a Gen 2 Mil Dot and the XR reticle and which one do they like better and why?

Also, I've heard the G2 MilDot is a bigger(thicker) reticle and I'm paranoid at 25x that it will cover up too much of the target...anyone have any opinion or advice on that as well?

Thanks for the help...this is a huge ($$$) purchase for me, and I want to get it right.

Re: Premier 5x25 advice...

The XR is fine above 8-10x and probably the better choice for very long range and bigger calibers. If it's for a 308 I would stick with the gen 2.This is more useful for lower magnification as you can see it for holding windage etc.

Reticle choices...

Gen2mildot

I'm pleased to announce the following product options and accessories:

-5-25x with Gen 2 mildot ($250 for upgrade on existing scope)

Please direct questions on pricing and availability to: [email protected]

With that...I would say both are options. I just received mine with the XR, and think it is great. It is very fine and works great at the higher mag levels. If you are going to use it for short range on low power you may want to look at the Gen2. I would email Premier and ask for a break down on reticle measurements for the 5-25 with the Gen2 if you are worried about it being too thick for longer range use.
I used mine to 1000 this weekend and never had it above 17 power. The joy of high end optics, you don't need high mag to see stuff a long way away.
We were holding up to 4.5 mils of wind this afternoon and I never felt hindered with the XR...

Re: Premier 5x25 advice...

The GenII mildot is a nice reticle, but I think its suited for the 3-15 range better than the 5-25 range.
I have the GenIIXR on my 5-25 and think its very functional. If I shot my rifle dialed back under 8X a lot I never would have bothered with the size and weight of the 5-25 to begin with.
