After much time reading reviews and opinions, I was all set to pull the trigger on a 16" Centurion MK12 Mod H barrel but just last night learned that PRI sells a Douglas MK12 Mod H barrel and I am once again torn between two options. I'm not seeing many reviews or reports on the PRI Douglas barrel. Does anybody here have any experience with them, or opinions on the Centurion vs. PRI Douglas? I'm not worried about clone correct or necessarily even accepting the over the barrel suppressor collar (but having the option someday is a appealing), just trying to put together a very accurate but not too heavy 16" 5.56

I bought the 18" 1-7 upper from PRI a couple of years ago. It shot and still shoots sub MOA and I have taken it out to 800 yards with 77 grain ammo. I do not handload so it is probably better then I am describing, I largely shoot the IMI 77 razorcore. I want to say it took them about a month to deliver the upper. I have the otter creek can and love the combination.

I have no experience with the Centurion version.

Same. I have PRI 18" Douglass barreled Mk12 Mod 0. I shoot IMI 77gr and AAC 77gr varieties. Everything is 1-1.5moa and the limiting factor on 60% IPSC steel at 500-900y is my shitty ability to read wind 🤣🤣

I want to hand load, just haven't made it a priority because AAC keeps having $0.50-55/round sales on their 77gr 5.56 ammo 🤣🥰

Interestingly enough I have been shooting a 18" SPR profile by a different company for awhile now (Nordic components 18", apparently a Wilson blank) and it seems to be shot out for any type of long range work after 7k rounds. I actually purchased a Centurion 18" MK12 to replace it. I looked at both the PRI and Centurion. I will report back when I get it mounted up.

The PRI barrels are good to go. People also seem to have equivalently good luck with the Bison Armory barrels, for substantially less money. They do a properly cut SPR profile that will take an ops collar etc. Worth a look at least.

Nice! I'd definitely be interested in hearing what you think of it. I'm thinking about maybe calling both companies next week with a couple questions and getting a feel for their customer service. I've heard that Centurion is great to deal with even if you have a problem but I'm not seeing much about how PRI is to deal with.

I'll definitely give them a look. Thanks!

I had a great experience with PRI's CS. Long story short, I had a Mk 12 Mod 0 upper that wouldn't chamber my 77gr TMK handloads that fit every other 5.56 rifle upper I own. Turns out their chamber headspace is on the very low end of SAAMI specs, and my TMK load was round about the middle, causing rounds to not go into battery unless I single loaded them and dropped the bolt, basically using the chamber to resize the brass a few thousandths more.

PRI took the upper back, checked the chamber, ran a bunch of ammo through it, and had good comms with me throughout. Turns out I just needed to size my brass for that upper to SAAMI minimum headspace.

As an aside, my Mod H upper also requires the brass be resized to SAAMI minimum. I'm guessing that helps with the accuracy they're known for.

That's good info! Thanks!
I gave PRI a call the other day and definitely got a good vibe. Person I talked to was helpful and knew details without having to look anything up.

I built alot of Mk12 and MK12 type rifles back in the day. Probably not as many as Wes, actually I don't think anyone has built more than him. Its pretty cool to still see you going at it. Looking back 25 years ago who the players were, almost everyone is either out of the game, retired or dead.

Douglas, Wilson, Lija, Noveske (when Pac Nor was making them), Krieger and a few other small makers that no longer exist. The only bad ones I have seen shoot are from the likes of DD and other people making a regular CL 18" and calling it a MK12 barrel.

If you want the absolute best accuracy potential. A cut rifle from Bartlien or Krieger is the way to go IMO. Unfortunately CLE is no long taking work so a place like craddock may be your best bet.

I don't think you can beat the Centurion barrels from my experience

Monte is an awesome dude and i have a lot of his stuff, but i have yet to get a single piece from him that wasnt somehow flawed. He always fixes it, if asked, but i think you can definitely beat his fn barrels if you get something that actually, you know.. works out of the box.
