I've got a line on some Privi 175 match ammo for a good price and was wondering of it's good enough to do some accuracy testing. I can also get Federal 168G Match for about .90/rnd shipped. The Privi is about .69/rnd shipped.
Any input? Rifle is a 20" AR10T 11.25 twist Lothar barrel. Looking to shoot 100 and 1000yds.
TIA

Re: Privi 175g Match .308...accuracy report?

I've never tried their Match ammo, but I've tried their normal stuff in a couple of calibers including .308win, and have not been impressed. In my off-the-shelf hunting rifles, none would group better than 2" to 2 1/2", where as Federal Classic was running at about 1"

Their match stuff might be a lot better, but I'd want to try a sample through the intended rifle(s) before laying out a lot of $$$$$ for a large batch of it...

I put close to a box of their match ammo through my .308 and was not happy with the performance. Federal match 175s will do sub .5 MOA at 100 yards and I could not get the Privi to group under 1 MOA.

I've only used their 168-grain match, and was not impressed at all.

Have heard great reports out of their .223 match, however.

I consider it a good relatively cheap practice ammo. You can reload the cases so that is a good thing. I can normally get 1 MOA to 1.5 MOA out of a normally 1/2 MOA rifle.

I had poor results with it as well. I bought 200 rounds from midway when it was on sale about a year ago. Out of my Savage which could easily hold sub MOA with my 168SMK Varget load would normally group around 2 MOA with the Priv. I reloaded the brass about 5 times before the primer pockets started to get loose. The brass is heavy and has less volume than the standard cartridge volume so reload carefully.

Good Luck

I bought some for shits and giggles a couple of years back. Was good for about 1-1/2MOA out of my 5R that could pretty consitantly hit 1/2MOA off of a benchrest. Used the rest of the box to shoot foulers before I wasted any handloads.
