Wound up with a Savage Model 10T a few weeks ago. I knew there was little factory available so I just reloaded as I went. Now, there isn't alot of data for loads either...anyway, I referenced Hornady's data for powder and OAL. Long story short, when I loaded to factory OAL it would put me about .200" into the lands (no typo). The bolt couldn't even close. Strange, bit I checked chamber length, adjusted and went on my merry way. Now, I just picked up a box of 108 ELD Match ammo from Hornady to try. Same thing...factory ammo is way too long. My question is what's going on?? Factory rifle and factory ammo wouldn't be usable at all. Is it the ammo, or my rifle? Thoughts? Pic is of my loads (left) vs factory (right).

I had the same problem with my custom built 6 creed. Our reamer was one of the early ones before the factory ammunition. All I did was ran the factory ammunition through seating die to fit my chamber just off lands.

Accuracy was sub .35

After running that case of ammunition, my gunsmith throated my chamber to fit the factory 108's.

Savage is well known for having short chambers in multiple calibers. In a .183 freebore chamber you are not going to be into the lands with factory ammo. You should contact Savage and tell them the issue.

Haha, bet more people would rather tell Hornady to shove their bullet farther into the case. A .183 freebore will never work for a 110 Sierra, and a hybrid questionable if one switches.

Look at this, especially with a Savage

Went to my gunsmith to make sure I wasn't being stupid in some way. The guy about fell off his chair. I brought my dies and seated some factory loads deeper. Here's the kicker, to get them to chamber, the lands were into the cases of the factory ammo. Not sure how this happened but I'm sure Savage will help me out Monday.

You can use a shorter freebore with factory ammo but it sounded like the OP had a very short chamber as it looks like a gunsmith verified. You have to use the right chamber for the bullet you want to use if you are building a custom obviously but factory chambers should load that ammo without issue.
