Hey guys, I just picked up my first 5R Milspec today. I can BARELY load 4 rounds into the magazine. When I do, the bolt will push the round forward about 1/2 inch then slide over it, scraping along the case. Anyone else have this problem with a new rifle? I'm hoping it just needs to be broken in a little, but I don't know.

Thanks for any help.
-Mike

That is definitely NOT normal and is likely not a break-in issue. I would definitely check the assembly and if it is wrong, get Remington to fix it.

Re: Problem loading 5R Milspec

I dont think gunsmith will check the mag box, mine had similar issue before I switch it to AICS. my advise is to get a detachable mag system. Not only it solves the problem once for all, but also much easier to reload.

Re: Problem loading 5R Milspec

If you put a single round in the magazine will it load it properly? This might be a long shot but does the rifle have the J-Key safety on the bolt? Could that be turned on and what is preventing the rounds from being loaded properly?

Re: Problem loading 5R Milspec

So I just got home from the range. The problem was the handloads he gave me. I bought a box of FGM 168 grain and compared it to his 168 handloads. His ammo looked like the bullets weren't seated all the way or something because they were a little bit longer than the FGM. The FGM loaded and fed perfectly. Oh and I couldn't shoot a group bigger than 1/2 MOA if I tried. I'm in love haha. I'll try and get some pics up soon.

Re: Problem loading 5R Milspec

My 700 will do this if you put the rounds too close to the bolt. I have learned that I have to angle the bolt downwards to catch the case.

It didnt really bother me that much...

My pss will shoot .5 moa with any ammo I feed it.

A 12$ box of pmc bronze shoots .5 moa!

I had the same problem. If I load between 2.830 and 2.860 COAL they will still fit in the magazine but will not feed. Glad you like your 5R, mine has been a great shooting rifle.
