I am specifically looking for info on the NM Precision Rifleman's Championship, but also interested in info on others.

Anyone know if I'm going to need a pistol? And how they are utilized in the course of fire?

It should be in the match description for gear needed if a pistol is needed. Send the match director an email and ask if it's not listed.

As to how and when it will be used is up to the MD. Usually there isn't a ton of pistol and it's used more for a time killer to be somewhere where you have to shoot it before you can get to shooting the rifle.

What Rob said. You only have to be proficient, not an expert. Being a world class USPSA shooter isn't going to win anyone the match; they might have a little extra time to shoot targets with the bolt gun.

Buy or borrow one. Doesn;t have to be a $3000 STI. A used $350 Glock will do the job just fine.

the brawl always has pistol...think the heatstroke in OK does also...the NM match usually does as well, as Tate is a 3 gun guy too...NM is a fun/fast paced match with lots of stage/target variety...last year they had 1 pistol stage (mainly for fun) as it was unlimited rounds, but you had 90 sec to clean it, like 25 targets...and then another stage with a few shots on a full size ipsc at like 30 yds and then a plate rack at like 15-20 yds...nothing difficult at all

EDIT TO ADD: the biggest thing in PRS matches where pistol targets count for points is DONT RUSH AND MISS THEM...its not like most pistol comps where you can miss fast and still win on time...points are points for hits only...they are easy points and hitting them at 90+% will gain you points on the field

North Texas PRS has pistol stages. Each of the pistol targets are worth 1/2 point. There usually a plate rack of a hand full of targets, or 5 on one plate, 5 on another. Nothing crazy on the pistol portions.
