Looking for a good rifle to start shooting PRS style matches. These are the options I want.
  • My budget is $2000
  • Available in some version of 6mm I'm not too picky on which cartridge because I will be reloading
  • Chassis
  • Flat blade trigger (but its not a deal breaker if it doesn't have it)
  • Heavy barrel contour, it gets hot as balls here during the summer and I would like to be able to shoot more than 2X before my barrel gets too hot. I currently shoot an old .308 Ruger hunting rifle with a spaghetti contour, and I can't have any fun with it unless its 30° outside because the barrel gets too hot.
  • 60° Throw
  • weights over 10 lbs
I've looked at the Berarga Premier LRP, MPA BA PMR, and the Badrock South Fork. I like the MPA over the bergara and badrock because it has the trigger style I want, and it has a thicker barrel contour than the Bergara. Are there any other rifle's out there that I should be considering that I haven't mentioned, and out of the three rifles listed above which would you choose?

Of the 3 I would choose the MPA BA PMR but the Badrock would be a close 2nd.

You might take a peek at Ashbury precision ordnance see the sticky note at the top, Lowlight has a few videos also.
It's a Remington action, so I think it's a 90deg. A lot of options there.
Their website has a configuration tool.

you do not need to spend a lot of money to shoot extremely small groups have see way better shooters than myself using stock savages putting together tighter groups than i can with a more expensive set ups money don't buy you skill . practice and you can do anything in time . Which ever gun you get may it give you many years of great shooting and good luck .

I just priced out my nuke, XLR Element, Huber triggers and Shilen prefit and it’s over $2000 and that’s a fairly bare bones setup excluding the trigger.

$2k budget I'm putting something together.

Nucleus Action $800
Xcaliber barrel $300
Used brake $75
Bravo + spigot $425
Used Timney $100
Magazine $50
Magpul bipod $80

Under $2K

Just waiting on the barrel.

If I was doing a 6MM, right now I would 100% go with the Ultimatum Defacto Barreled action + trigger for $1,000.

I haven't thought about shopping around for used parts to try to get a build under $2K, thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the advice. I've shot cheap rifles around $1200 and 10K custom builds, and I I've shot 1/2 MOA groups with each. At this point I'm willing to pay a small luxury tax to get nicer things.

What i've got in a rifle i'm doing so far :
Plan to shoot to 1000 yds.
Spent more on scope than I ever have before.
figured I can move it to future gun if I decide
to upgrade rifle.

used Remmington 700 action from 1995 $ HAD IT
used Shilen trigger had from 1995 $ HAD IT

rebarrel from 22-250 to 6.5CM Krieger
add MUZZLE Break and pic rail
ceracoat action and barrel $830.00

Used Macrees G10 chassis / magazine $400.00

used Kahles 624X56 SCOPE FFP $1930.00
(like new mil dot illuminated with left side windage)

ARC 34MM RINGS $180.00

Lens caps $108.00

Bipod (Atlas probably not sure what to buy) $250.00 (estimate)

total $3698.00

Total so far not including the action and trigger (I bought the remington 700 for $450. new back in 1995.
Action was trued up when I had a new Hart barrel put on it in 1996. Shot 1/2 moa off a bench with a 6.5x20
Leupold.
May have to bush firing pin (using Lapua small primer brass w/ccI450 primers)
will try without and see.
