I saw a thread about both units...I'm leaning towards the Thermal Eye X50 due to using AA batteries that can be replaced.

I know many own the PS32 and have been very happy with their purchase. My biggest concern with the PS32 is the battery being built into the unit. I know Skypup and others have commented on how good FLIRs CS is should I need help. I'm just concerned long term when the battery fails what happens to the unit.

With the Thermal Eye X50...how is the resolution since it's less then the PS32? I saw some video on youtube of the Thermal Eye X50.

It appears that the Thermal Eye X50 can be found for roughly $2,200 and the PS32 for $2500. I really want to get a thermal scope, but at this point, I'm not going to spend that much money to get into thermal.

I see most use thermal to detect game...then switch to NV for ID and to take the shot. That is my plan, so any additional information would be appreciated.

X-50 = 100X80 = 8,000 pixels

FLIR PS-32with 19mm lens has 320X240 = 76,800 pixels

If you can detect and ID with almost ten times less pixels and are happy with the AA batteries, by all means go for the X-50.

Resolution and detection are directly related to pixel count and lens size, so the X-50 would seem to be about tens times less capable?

Also, the PS-32 has FLIRs InstaAlert Red in addition to the White Hot and Black Hot, that alone is worth the difference.

I've never charged up my FLIRs on an all night hunt, but I do have a rechargeable battery pack with a mini-USB connector to take with us on camp outs when we are out for days at a time.

A good question for FLIR would be, IF you get to a point where the battery is no longer taking/holding a charge, will they replace the internal battery and if so, how much as that wouldn't be covered?

The only other way to get around it is to spend more on their H series which has replaceable rechargeable batteries.

FLIR CS is totally first class and they certainly will replace a defective or worn out internal battery in their personal vision systems units.

So far, my PS-32 has been recharged approx. 400 times over the last two years and it has not been a problem. When it does become a problem sometime in the future, I will return it to FLIR for a new battery and possibly a software update (I'll probably need a new I-Phone battery and software update by then too), but I will assume that will be another two-three years down the road.

When it does happen, I'm sure it will be easy to take care of with such great customer service and a company that stands behind their products.

The internal battery pack was also a concern of mine before I purchased my LS64.After dealing with FlIR's customer service on a light crack in the shell ,I no longer have a worry in my mind about not getting a problem resolved. They are truly a top notch company to say the least.Go FLIR and never look back.
