Because this happens when you have your sexy Tikka T3x Tac A1 on the work bench, on the bipod, then you bump it, and it falls to the ground... landing on the bolt handle....

Wow. This appears to be a violation of one cardinal rule of user-friendly product design, which is "try really hard to ensure that the cheapest and/or easiest-to-replace part fails first".

Hopefully the manufacturer gets you back up and running ASAP.

Ouch. Damn Dude...I'm sorry. I send my condolences. Pain in the ass....

    Ouch.

Hopefully the new bolt headspaces very close to the old bolt... otherwise you might be looking at a barrel setback and rechambering too. I think Tikka holds pretty good tolerances though.

If they won't warranty it a new bolt body from Midwest gun works looks to be about $250...

Fuck it. I remembered I found a precision TIG welding/machine shop near me. I've used him before and he's good peoples.

Being the crack is at the tail of the bolt and doesn't seem to have cracked through the cocking cam area, I think I'd try to TIG it too if the factory won't replace it under warranty. Wouldn't be too difficult of a job. Since it's at the tail of the bolt I wouldn't worry about the hardness change in the heat affected zone.

Yup, those right handed bolts are that price.

But I'm left handed... so ?

Well, Midwest Gun Works and Brownells, the sellers of Tikka parts both advised a big fat negative on a left hand replacement bolt body in 308 case head diameter.

Called Beretta USA and they directed me to Midwest and Brownells.

That sucks they discontinued the 308 lh bolt bodies as a replacement part. I was just looking at Brownells and Midwest and saw Midwest had some rh bolt bodies and assemblies, but didn't realize yours was left hand.

I'd try and TIG that thing but also keep searching for a left hand bolt body, or if you have to, a complete used left handed rifle.

Looks like if the lugs failed that bolt would of wound up in your face if the body was that weak.

Wrong. The forces are going the wrong way for that little section to have any load bearing responsibilities. The bolt would push on the opposite side of the handle.

Force on the bolt goes to the rear, not to the front. You would have to shear the entire length of the bolt body ahead of the handle for it to fail similarly.

So thats the bolt that broken not the action.

I think most are aware of what broke. Some realize that the metal is not what they want in a rifle action.

    Man.

Had something similar happen to me last year.

Dropped it off my a local laser welder/micro TIG specialist. Should be done in a day or two. I'll show results

These guys are badass. Used them before

    B&D Precision Welding
They look like they know there shit, welding under a microscope . You didn't trust the local stick welder at the junk yard ?

The words Tikka and warranty should never be used in the same sentence. By far the worst company I've ever dealt with, and Savage was pretty bad. I sent a Tikka in for a cracked bolt and they condemned the whole rifle with no option to repair. I sold it in parts/pieces, and won't own anything Tikka again.
