After buying a PTG DBM and 5 round single stack AICS MAG I am so frustrated. So, $238 for DBM and mag. $120.00 to PTG TO INLET my Bell and Carlson A5 stock which they didn't do but they billed me. I brought it to a gunsmith near me and they charged me $250.00 to inlet the stock. Then another $88.00 to polish the PTG bolt as it is not smooth. (I went from a .223 to.308 and bought a PTG bolt). This all started more than 5 months ago. The gunsmith just told me that 6.5x47 lapua will never feed properly via a AICS mag. Do Now That I wasted all that time and money I'm back to square one. I know there are at least two guys that shoot 6.5x47 lapua out of repeaters. Do I need to junk what I have and buy a Badger, Surgeon, or Hawkins? Do I need a double stack mag? I live in Phoenix AZ .

I run 6.5x47 out of aics 5 and 10 rounders no problem ptg bottom metal. I did have a problem with my accu mag this weekend it was just dirty though cleaned today no problem

Seems like you are always fixing some inept gunsmiths fuckup. Good on you Chad. I’m fairly local to you and you have my work from here on out.

What surprises me is that in this day and age of the internet people take what their local "gunsmith" says as gospel truth. Five minutes of research will at least inform you of the average cost, timeline, and functionality of any procedure.

I have the same problem with PTG, I bought their bottom metal for my Ruger M77 MKii LA. PTG website says minor inletting may be required to install. BS! In order to install I have to mill out about .200” of the mag port and feed ramp. And of course they won’t take the bottom metal back.

6.5x47 feeds slick out of my AICS mags. There's no issue there. Your gunsmith has SFB. I agree there's a lot of inletting but you should know that before you start.

Thank you so much! I was ready to box up my rifle and send it but I took it to a gunsmith that I used in the past who figured it out and fixed it while I watched. He took the AICS mag apart and cut off a portion so my 6.5x47 lapua round fit . Ground it and polished with some sandpaper. Works great.

Worse yet is these gunsmiths don't research the internet to verify, fix problems and better themselves.
I build all my own stuff. I'm not a licensed gun Smith or anything tho. I have two friends who went to "gunsmith school" and they don't really know much more then basic assembly and replace broken stuff. And both get mad when we talk about projects because I talk about doing more without schooling or a"license".
But back to the point both of my "gunsmith" friends are not the type to consider new ideas or make sure they are right or wrong or do research on new trends and Hone skills.
Neither can thread and shoulder a barrel blank and firmly believe it's a job only for professional smith's. One said one time "you shouldn't be doing that unless you done it before" well how is someone living by that rule ever going to do it the first time then? Well I have more then one done myself and I'm also self-taught on mechine work. I learned some from others and old timers sure. But 90% everything hobby related I learned on the internet.
