I'm thinking of getting the newest Leupold 34 mm main tube tactical scope. It has some features that meet the latest SOCOM solitictation for a sniper scope including a Horus 37 reticle and 1/10 milradian clicks on the turrets.

BUT... should I spend my money on a Schmidt & Bender P&M II scope, also with a Horus reticle? (I won't buy a new scope without a Horus LR reticle.)

What, if any, would be the difference in quality between the two scopes? (The Leupold is more expensive.)I'm aware that S&B has been the highest quality tactical optics in the recent past. Has Leupold met that quality level?

Re: Quality of new LEUPOLD tactical scope??

Leupold has stepped up a bit with the release of the 34mm ER/T models. However I believe they are a bit overpriced, and really overpriced if they cost more than a S&B. If you are looking for an American Optic, why not add an USO to your choices?

Re: Quality of new LEUPOLD tactical scope??

I have a Mark 8 CQBSS and I'm quite impressed and pleased with it, but it's difficult to compare it to the S&Bs I've used as they're two totally different scopes. However, I got it at discount. It was a price I personally felt comfortable paying and have no regrets after the fact. MSRP? Nope, won't do it so long as there is S&B in the same bracket.

I am quite interested in the new Mark 6 and Mark 8 models coming out though, and will likely be looking hard at the 1-6x20 model for a future RECCE build. They're doing great things lately and I'm sure the future will hold the same.

The Leupold Mark 8 CQBSS with the Horus reticle offers daylight visible illumination (Leupold is starting to listen

). If U.S. Optics had true daylight visible illumination in the FFP/SFP dual offering, it would be the ticket.
