I purchased a S&B PMII 5-25x56 and I'd like to get some good caps to protect it now, any suggestions? (it came with some butler creek flip ups which are kind of a joke for this scope)

Re: Quality scope caps

I'm not good enough to answer the question, I put BC caps on all my scopes....

Perhaps list out what are you trying to protect your scope from so we can find a suitable solution for you.

dust and other foreign objects that would have a chance at scratching the lens.

Something more rugged too, the BC caps I had on my Leupold MK4 didn't even survive the civilian air flight the last time I flew to the sandbox.

I don't know of any other lens caps that will fit on the PMII 5-25X, but you might consider buying the ARD that USO makes for the 56mm PMII. The ARD's honeycomb will help keep dirt and dust from sandblasting the objective lens, as well as keeping dirt and grit that do wind up on the objective from being rubbed into the glass.

The USO ARD consists of a threaded Type III hard anodized aluminum housing (which is a Sunshade by itself) + a high-efficiency honeycomb that serves as the actual anti-reflective piece.

The rear of the housing has male threads to mate with the female threads on the PMII's objective bell. The front of the housing has female threads to accept other accessories (such as another ARD or Sunshade).

The OAL of the Sunshade / ARD is 2.25" with an installed length of 2.0", but USO could make you a 4.25" OAL / 4.0" installed length unit if you want. The honeycomb is epoxied into place inside the housing, and will not work it's way loose.

While it isn't a perfect solution, it is the best solution that I am aware of. I have two PMII 5-25Xs' and they both wear USO ARDs'. You can order direct from USO, but CS Tactical and Connecticut Firearms and Tactical (both vendors here) sell them as well.

Below are closeups of a USO 2" ARD for a 56mm Schmidt Bender. The bogus thing is that the PMIIs' aren't Type III anodized so the finishes don't match:
