Re: question...300 wby barrel length

The fastest stuff I had in my 300 Weatherby was 4831SC and H1000. With a 32 inch 1.25 straight tube Hart, I was getting 190SMKs to shoot 3150 VERY accurately.

I would think at 22 inches, you would have a LOT of noise and even more flash. A 22inch 300 Weatherby, IMO, robbing the case of what it can do. Its designed for slow powders and long tubes.

Whats the purpose of the rifle?

Well, the 300 Weatherby will punch paper just fine, It is more than enough for any deer I've come across, and will certainly destroy any ground hog.

However, just so you know, it is not a pleasurable paper puncher. Mine weighed in at 83 pounds and was more of a push than a punch for recoil. Plus, anytime you light off a case that has 79.1 grains of 4831SC barrels get hot QUICK. It is really easy to torch a throat and then its time for another barrel, or set the one back you have.

But a really cool option that you have with a 300 Weatherby is the 300 Ackley. The 300 Ackley is basically a blown out 300 Weatherby, and for a long time, it was a top performer in the 1k Heavy Gun class of benchrest shooting. So if you go with the 300 Weatherby, and you burn up a throat, you can always have it set back and rechambered for a 300 Ackley.

83lbs? Does it have dumbbells attached?

Re: question...300 wby barrel length

I shot it in the HG. And yeah, more or less it did. The forearm and butt stock were both filled.

Airlines HATED seeing that bad boy roll up to the counter top. But guess what.... They could only charge me the extra 50 bucks for being overweight!

Re: question...300 wby barrel length

the ackley was what i was planning eventually or a rum. im well aware of the recoil factor. got a light 257 wby and a 300 rum sittin at home. favorite deer gun is a 300 win. lol. i like big bangs. did i mention when i dont wanna lug arround a rifle i grab a 454 casull... i like big booms... i figure if im gonna get a long range gun, its gotta kill big game at the ranges i want since i never really hunt varmints seriously. my current shoot everything gun is the 257. eventually ill go with something like a 245AI or similiar
