question about a rem 700 p

Re: question about a rem 700 p

about a year ago i saw this 700p in a pawn shop, in 308. and it had three wide flutes on the barrel, not like the newer triangle type, this was reg wide flutes. can anyone tell me if this is how the 700p comes from the factery, or what!

Re: question about a rem 700 p

I think you're looking at the LTR or XCR compact. Both are good rifles. The LTR runs around $900 and the XCR compact around $1400... But you can find them cheaper if you shop around.

Re: question about a rem 700 p

THE LTR HAS THE TRIANGLE TYPE FLUTING AS I CALL IT, BUT IM LOOKING FOR REG FLUTES THEY WERE ABOUT TWICE AS WIDE AS NORMAL, AND THERE WERE ONLY THREE. IN 2007 I THINK I REMEMBER THEM IN THE REM CATALOG, BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO FIND OUT IF THAT WAS THE ONLY YEAR THEY MADE THEM OR WHAT. I DID SEND A EMAIL TO THE SALESMAN FOR REM L/E IN FL. SO MAYBE IL FIND OUT TOMAROW.

top is LTR
bottom is VTR
700P is roundy-round, no flutes

Re: question about a rem 700 p

IT SEEMS THE LTR IS THE ONE, IF YOUR PICTURE IS CORECT, NOW HOW DO I EXPLAIN THE REM 700 P 308. STAMPED ON THE RIFLE I SAW. MAYBE IT WAS A SWAP. THANK YOU.

Re: question about a rem 700 p

Technically, the LTR is a "700P". There is the "700P" (26" unfluted) and the "700P LTR" (20" fluted). The general nomenclature for the latter is usually just "LTR".
However owning one, I also don't recall any factory barrel stampings.

Re: question about a rem 700 p

NOW YOU HAVE ME CONFUSED, MY MEMORY IS TELLING ME THAT IT WAS THERE, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS, IT DID HAVE AN H.S. PRES STOCK, AND TWO STUDS UP FRONT. I REMEMBER THE STOCK WELL. DOES THE LTR HAVE THE H.S. PRES STOCK? MAYBE THIS IS WHY I CANT FIND THE RIFLE IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR, IT MIGHT NOT EXIST.

Re: question about a rem 700 p

They both have the HS-P stock. They both have two forward sling studs. The LTR stock is shorter with a lesser grip or palm swell.
Older 700P's are 24" and newer 26". The barrel profile is the same as the VS line. The 700P-LTR was always 20"

The tell-all in factory configuration should be the barrel length. The stocks are frequently sold 2nd-hand and it is not uncommon to see the "LTR" in the 700P stock. I don't recall seeing anyone cutting LTR-like flutes in custom barrels.

Re: question about a rem 700 p

Ok... The LTR is only 20" and has 3 flutes. The 700P and the PSS have longer barrels and no flutes... Period. Both have an HS Precision stock but the forearm is different. The PSS and 700P have fatter forearms than the LTR. Come on guys... You know this!
