Question about Ordering improved dies

I realize this is a dumb question, but let’s call it “analysis paralysis”.... I am having a 338 lapua improved built and am going to have whidden make the dies for me. I had planned to send in some fireformed brass as per his instructions, but my question is; is 1x fireformed brass Sufficient? Or do I have to figure out a way to get 2x’s fired?

1x fired will be fine as long as you use a full power load the first firing. If you use a super low pressure load you might have an issue.

Single fireform should be fine for making dies. Just don’t fireform with a reduced load. (For whatever reason). Also, in my experience, there is no reason to treat fireform loads as anything special. They will most likely be just as accurate and effective as your improved loads, just a little slower.

I’d load up a ladder in 1 gr increments until you see pressure. Pop the primers out and take headspace measurements. You’ll see a range where the case is fully filled out. Use those cases as samples for Whidden.
